I grew up in Sarasota, FL and have lived in Venice for the last 16 years. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English and a Master of Advertising degree, both from the University of Florida (GO GATORS!!). Like many other teachers at SLA, I am a career changer. My first career was in the restaurant business… I managed a restaurant in Sarasota and worked as a marketing/advertising consultant for several area restaurants for many years.
My husband, James, and my children, Lauren, Eli, Cora, and Lilly are my everything, which is one of the main reasons I became a teacher. This incredible career allows me to share my love and passion for reading, writing, and grammar (yes, I am the grammar police) with our nation’s future leaders while sharing a school schedule with my own sweet kiddos. In terms of teaching, the most important thing to me is that your amazing children leave my classroom feeling like they have a voice in this world and they can contribute to incredible change. I want them to feel comfortable knowing that each of us learns differently, is capable of learning anything, and can contribute what we have learned to the world around us. In my spare time, when I am not surfing, playing ping pong, or playing board games with my family, I love to run (I am SLA’s Cross Country Coach!), cook, and play acoustic guitar. My husband graduated from Venice High School (and UF) and is the Assistant City Manager for the City of Venice, and we have kids at Venice Elementary, SLA, and State College of Floridal. James and I love our town and feel so blessed that we both get to contribute something meaningful to this community. |
